Please see below a message from Medway Council which might be helpful to local businesses.
The government has recently announced details of the Discretionary Business Grants fund. This is an additional fund aimed at small businesses who were not eligible for the Small Business Grant Fund or the Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Fund.
Aimed at small businesses with ongoing fixed property-related costs, businesses in shared spaces, regular market traders, small charity properties that would meet the criteria for Small Business Rates Relief and bed and breakfasts that pay council tax rather than business rates, will be prioritised. However, consideration will also be given to other businesses based on local economic need.
Businesses must be small, under 50 employees, and they must also be able to demonstrate that they have seen a significant drop of income due to Coronavirus restriction measures.
We will have discretion to make payments of any amount under £10,000 based on local circumstances. Please note applications must be received by 12 noon on Friday 5 June. Full details of qualifying criteria and to apply visit the coronavirus business page.
For a summary of all available support, please visit www.medwayforbusiness.org.uk. Details of a secondary scheme for the self-employed will be announced at a later date.
As individuals are being asked to look out for their neighbours, I encourage businesses to do the same, and ask that you forward this message to any Medway business contacts you feel may benefit.
